The ceramic series was first developed in the studio workshop in 2018. It was the result of exploring and experimenting with raw manganese clay. The very dark, almost black fired clay with its slightly coarse structure has a very earthy, almost charred character. The cracked surface enhances this character and when used in vases or planters, it looks as if flowers and plants are growing out of the dry earth, blooming from the ashes. There is limited control over the way the cracks are created. There is room for chance, so no two objects are the same. It was important to make the special character of the material visible and to emphasize the material itself rather than hiding it under glazes.
